I've been thinking a lot lately...

of getting Ashlee a pet for her birthday in December. I don't really want to get a puppy during the winter (its no fun potty training them in 20 degree weather) so I'm not sure what to get her. A fish? A turtle? A bird?

Does anyone have some suggestions? Thank you!

Oh man my kids have had so many pets over the years...good ones, not so good ones. Hopefully this will be somewhat helpful.

Birds are messy and loud (my parents have parakeets). They LOVE them but I find them kind of annoying.

We currently have a Malaysian Box Turtle and he's super easy (eats fruit and goldfish) but not much fun since he hides in his cubby hole most of the time.

We had a hamster for a few years (they can get a little smelly) also she was a biter so the kids wouldn't hold her. FYI they're nocturnal so they run around a lot at night, usually in the wheel. We would put her in the ball and she would run around the house which was pretty fun.

We've had little lizards too...you have to feed them live crickets, which means you have to maintain a live cricket tank...enough said.

I'd stick with a fish, like a beta. They are super easy to take care of and look really cool!! Plus their water stays fairly clean, unlike goldfish who are very dirty.

I still wouldn't rule out a puppy. Santa brought us an 8 week old puppy 2 years ago and we used babygates and disposable pee-pee pads to housetrain him...worked very well but he is a small/medium size dog.

Yeah, it is good to blog again! You could always adopt a potty trained dog. That's what we did;)
